History of the O'Hara Corporation
O'Hara Corporation has been in business in Rockland, Maine for well over fifty years. The company has its roots in Boston where it all started in the fishing industry. Buying and selling fish, and owning and operating fishing boats was the primary focus of the company for many years. During the first half of the twentieth century the business spread from Boston to the Maine towns of Portland, Eastport, and Rockland. After riding the crests and troughs of the fish business for a hundred years, the company's headquarters was established in Rockland.
The ever changing face of the fish business has forced most of the O'Hara fishing fleet to the West Coast where it participates in the Alaska offshore groundfish fishery. The company still maintains its presence in the East Coast fishery with several boats in the scallop and herring business.
The Rockland facility has undergone major changes over the last twenty years. The town has made the transformation from being one of the top fishing ports in the United States to being a major hub for midcoast Maine. Here one can find a vast array of opportunities for shopping, cultural experiences, and tourist attractions.
O'Hara Corporation has been at the vanguard of this movement and has developed a a substantial portion of the Rockland waterfront into a full service marina.
